"On or about 20th December Mr. Calthrop asked me to take over and reorganize the Police Reserve Flying Squad which was being used as despatch riders. This I did and it ran very satisfactorily. There were several men deserving of commenda- tion but I can only remember sergeants Shea and S. W. Lee."

"P. S. A50 Mattison and P. S A44, Black- burn deserve praise for their willingness and co-operation they displayed daringday the first seven days of the War while I was at Upper Levels. On their day off from Charge Room duty they were always out on some mission, e.g. control of rice crowds, visits to dispersal points or reports of lights showing or Fifth Columnists. They hardly had more than two hours consecutive rest during the week and yet they carried on cheerfully and efficiently."
